Apple Music adds spatial-audio DJ mixes to its service

Apple Music was one of the first streaming services to properly license DJ mixes, and it was also one of the first to go hard on surround-sound ‘spatial audio’ music. Now it’s combining the two with the launch of a series of spatial-audio DJ mixes using the Dolby Atmos format.

Detroit legend Jeff Mills provided the first one: an hour-long mix that’s exclusive to Apple Music, with plans for more mixes to be added every month as part of Apple’s ‘One Mix’ series. Apple Music has also added 15 DJ sets from electronic brand Boiler Room, all mixed into spatial audio too.

It’s all part of the service’s wider spatial drive, with Apple saying in September 2021 that more than 40 million Apple Music listeners had tried the feature, then in February 2022 saying that spatial listeners had grown by 50% since that previous milestone.
