It’s been a whirlwind three years for Jon Vlassopulos since taking over as Roblox’s head of music. Back then, it was still known mainly as a games platform for kids, but since then it has expanded into music via launch parties, performances and awards events. Now Vlassopulos has announced that he is leaving Roblox at the end of April, although staying on as an advisor to “help Roblox continue to execute on their music strategy”.

In his announcement on LinkedIn, he summarised some of the activity, including noting that between them, Lil Nas X, Zara Larsson and KSI “collectively generated 8 figs” in virtual merchandise sales on Roblox. Not such a surprise, given that Vlassopulos had previously said that Lil Nas X alone was “creeping towards eight figures” (i.e. more than $10m). Since then, Larsson also announced that she had sold more than $1m of Roblox merch.

Roblox has yet to announce if there will be a new head of music to directly replace Vlassopulos.
