Artists and other creators can already use YouTube’s ‘Super Chat’ and ‘Super Stickers’ features to make money from viewers spending money to show off their fandom. Only a few have had access to the third of YouTube’s tips-economy features though: ‘Super Thanks’. That’s changing now: it is rolling out across 68 countries for channels that are part of YouTube’s partner program.
The format of ‘Super Thanks’ will be familiar to anyone who’s watched Twitch. Viewers can spend between $2 and $50 to have an animated GIF pop up on the video they’re watching, as well as a comment highlighted with colour so it stands out underneath.
Another useful tool in the armoury of any musicians who are trying to get to grips with YouTube’s tips economy.
