Snapchat’s parent company held its Snap Partner Summit event this week with various product and partnership announcements, including one focusing on music.
Snap has a new deal with Live Nation to launch ‘AR experiences’ for a number of the latter company’s festivals and concerts, including Lollapalooza, the Wireless Festival, Rolling Loud and Electric Daisy Carnival. “Attendees will be able to use AR to try on merchandise, find friends and discover exclusive landmarks around the festival grounds,” explained Snap, about the multi-year deal.
Other announcements at the summit that are relevant to the music industry: a new version of Snap’s Lens Studio software for creating AR filters; more experimentation with AR shopping technology (which could have applications for artist merch); and a new ‘Director Mode’ to up the production values of videos filmed within Snapchat.
Oh, and also a new gadget: a flying drone called Pixy which people can launch into the air to capture footage, including following them around. We can see some potentially fun music uses for this too.
