Voice assistants have been at the heart of Sonos’s arguments with Google and Amazon in recent years – including a full-blown legal battle with the former company. Now the hardware firm is preparing to launch its own alternative to Google Assistant and Alexa.
The Verge reported that ‘Sonos Voice’ will launch in the US on 1 June, followed by an international rollout, and will be available for any Sonos devices using the company’s S2 software.
“At launch, Sonos Voice will work with Apple Music, Amazon Music, Pandora, Deezer, and the company’s own Sonos Radio,” reported the tech site. “Spotify and Google’s YouTube Music aren’t yet on board.” It added that people’s voice commands will not be recorded or stored in the cloud, in an effort to protect users’ privacy.
