Four screenshots of the Coldplay mobile app

A decade ago, Music Ally was writing lots of stories about artists’ mobile apps. It’s fair to say the fervour around this has died down significantly in recent years.

However, artist apps are still a thing: witness Coldplay’s new Android and iOS app, released for the band’s ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour. It’s billed as “the essential companion to the tour” including exclusive livestreams, video and photos, and AR filters for fans to make their own music video.

There are also several features reflecting the band’s campaigning around the climate emergency. The app includes a carbon calculator to help fans find sustainable ways to travel to concerts on the tour, with the promise that Coldplay will use this data to offset the emissions. There are also eco-themed games, explanations of how Coldplay are reducing their own emissions from the tour, and information about the sustainability partners helping them do it.
