Right from the start, streaming radio startup Gimme Radio has offered artists DJing slots on its schedules, and ways to make money from that. Now it’s adding another layer to this strategy with ‘Airwaves’.
It’s an artist-in-residence program that will see musicians host eight hours of programming over a month of weekly shows. The shows will be promoted not just on Gimme Radio, but through its partnership with radio giant iHeartMedia.
The company says the process is painless for the artists: they record an hour of stories while choosing tracks, and it then turns that into the eight hours of broadcasts. Airwaves is running across the Gimme Metal and Gimme Country stations, with the first artists taking part including Charley Crockett, Molly Tuttle, Midnight, Blood Incantation, Voivod, GWAR and Matt Pike.
“We’re investing hundreds of thousands of dollars to promote dynamic creators who can shake up the digital music experience and advance music culture,” said CEO Tyler Lenane.
