New for the increasingly long list of Things We Didn’t Spot Coming in 2022: an NFT based on jazz great Thelonious Monk. It’s the result of a partnership between Monk’s estate, visual artist Javier Arrés, and MakersPlace – the NFTs marketplace that’s backed by Sony Music. The drop is a pair of NFTs, one in a single edition and one in an open edition, featuring unreleased music from Monk and narration from his son, T.S. Monk. The sale kicks off on 19 May.
Elsewhere in NFTs-land, startup Inflow is launching a service for music artists to create their own tokens, build fan communities around them, and earn money as those tokens are sold and re-sold. What got our attention is the fact that Warner Music Group is an investor, alongside luminaries of the web3 world including Dapper Labs and Consensys.
Finally, startup Clubbing TV is launching a brand called The List. It’s a collection of 7,777 ‘NFT wristbands’, with bundled perks in the Decentraland virtual world. Meanwhile, more than 150 of the NFTs will also get the owner lifetime access to various clubs and festivals around the world.
