TikTok wants you to know that a growing number of its creators are making waves in the traditional entertainment industries – music included.

The company has announced ‘The Showbiz List’, a lineup of 35 TikTokers who are finding success outside the social app too. Acting, animation, makeup and visual effects are among the categories alongside music.

Four musicians are included in the latter. Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear were responsible for the ‘What If Bridgerton Was A Musical?’ series, which has since become a fully-fledged musical-theatre album. MegaGoneFree is a Baltimore-based Black LGBTQ+ independent artist, while Dallas-based Sri made her name with cover videos before starring in TikTok-original musical ‘For You, Paige’.

These and similar stories are important for TikTok, which wants the music industry to see it as an A&R pool of emerging musicians, not just a promotional medium for established artists.
