Another day, another pair of artists doing interesting things in the metaverse.
Jamiroquai is the latest music partner for virtual world The Sandbox, following in the footsteps of Snoop Dogg, Plastikman and Deadmau5, and Warner Music Group. In a deal brokered by UMG’s Bravado subsidiary, Jamiroquai has bought virtual land in The Sandbox and will be building “a communal place to digitally connect with our fans and fellow music lovers… hats will definitely be involved”. There are already some (physical, not virtual) merch items available from the band’s webstore.
In separate news, up-and-coming British artist Alfie Templeman is working with Amazon Music on a virtual festival called ‘Mellow Moon‘ to be held in Minecraft. It opened yesterday (18 March) and will see performances today from Templeman, Everything Everything, Matilda Mann, The Vaccines and Todd Rundgren (!) among other artists. Thankfully, for anyone who’s not entirely up to speed with logging on to multiplayer Minecraft servers, the event will also be livestreamed on Amazon Music UK’s Twitch channel.
