Snapchat has mobile gamesNetflix has mobile games; now TikTok appears to have mobile gaming ambitions too.

Reuters reported that TikTok has been testing games in its app in Vietnam, ahead of a potential rollout to the rest of south-east Asia later this year. The report suggests that these games will be funded by advertising, with the revenues shared with developers, and that it could tie in to parent company ByteDance’s growing involvement in gaming.

TikTok isn’t completely new to gaming, mind. In November 2021, social gaming firm Zynga launched ‘Disco Loco’ as an HTML5 game within TikTok. That was a music game, which soft-launched in ‘select markets’ as a toe in the water of how games could fit into TikTok’s previously video-focused app.

All these social and streaming companies getting into gaming does make us wonder though. Let the ‘Why doesn’t Spotify add in-app mini-games?’ speculation commence!
