If he’d lived, The Notorious B.I.G. would have turned 50 this weekend. Amid the various celebrations of his life and music, there was that most 2022 of announcements: a new metaverse and NFTs drop. The virtual world is called The Brook, and is due to launch in late 2022, with an NFTs sale ahead of that in early June.
It’s a partnership between Burst, HyperReal and Surreal Events, working with Biggie’s estate to create a world based on 1990s Brooklyn. There’s the promise of a “hyperrealistic avatar” of the rapper himself, with a teaser video showing off what looks like an impressive virtual environment.
While they wait for it to launch, fans of ‘Brooklyn recreated in the metaverse for music marketing purposes’ projects at least have something else to explore: Rapper 22Gz has premiered his new video within virtual world Decentraland, in a space built as a virtual Brooklyn Bridge.
