US dollars money

You know a market is buzzing when brand new startups are raising seed funding rounds in the double-digit millions. In this case, the market is NFTs, and the startup is US firm Highlight, which is being backed in its $11m round by talent agency WME, Method Music, Three Six Zero’s Mark Gillespie and Visionary Music’s Chris Zarou.

“With Highlight, anyone can mint non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that help recognize, reward, and delight your top fans,” promised the company in its introductory blog post. “Beyond minting, we’re opening up access to the tools to create a beautiful custom-designed home for your token-holders, with rich integrations that offer ongoing utility and enticing access.”

The company is also promising that launching a project on Highlight “takes less than 5 minutes and requires no technical knowledge”.

We’re getting some flashbacks to the heyday of mobile app-creation startups, which may or may not be an auspicious thing. But Highlight’s development – and the calibre of artists it attracts – will be worth watching.
