There is more consolidation afoot in the world of music distribution, but this time it’s not a major label doing the buying. Independent distributor Danmark Music Group has bought Secretly Noord, the Scandinavian arm of global firm Secretly Distribution.
Danmark reckons that the merged entity will be Scandinavia’s largest independent digital distributor, with Secretly taking a stake in the company as part of the deal.
It’s the latest stage in a veritable saga of Scandinavian distribution, with Secretly Noord having been founded by former execs from another local distributor, Phonofile, in the wake of its merger with rival Finetunes and subsequent acquisition by The Orchard.
“In a time where the majors are buying creative independent distributors, we feel it is more critical than ever to assert a dedicated, strong, and genuinely independent distribution service with unparalleled knowledge of the independent music scene,” said one of those execs, Daggan Stamenkovic, this week.
