Streaming service Deezer took its latest step into concert livestreams this weekend, bagging exclusive rights to stream the homecoming gig by Marseille rapper Jul. He played to 60,000 people in the Orange Vélodrome Stadium on Saturday, with Deezer also streaming the concert live through its app and website.
It’s the latest event in a long-term partnership between the French-headquartered DSP and one of its home country’s biggest stars, with Jul having been the most-streamed artist on Deezer “almost every year since 2015” according to the company.
It’s also more evidence of Deezer’s desire to do more with livestreaming, having invested in two companies in that space – Dreamstage and Driift – in 2021. “This livestream is the first of its kind for Deezer, but there will be many more to come as we continue to explore ways of bringing artists and fans together,” promised Deezer’s VP of artist relations Nigel Harding ahead of the Jul concert.
