Remember when adding podcasts to a music streaming service was a new thing? Now it’s very much across the board.
ByteDance’s Resso is the latest to hop on the bandwagon, striking a deal with podcasting company Acast to add the latter’s 47k shows to its service.
“Following our tremendous growth with music, podcasts are a natural next step for Resso,” said the DSP’s head of music licensing partnerships Alberto Lopez, which suggests that further distribution deals will be following.
The news follows a period of rapid growth for Resso, with research firm Apptopia claiming that its app was downloaded 85m times in 2021, making it the second most-downloaded music and audio app globally that year behind only Spotify, but ahead of YouTube Music.
