In April Snapchat’s parent company Snap announced a partnership with Live Nation to create augmented reality experiences around concerts and festivals. One of the first took place this weekend: the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York.
It involved a third partner, telco Verizon Wireless, with Snap creating two AR lenses for Snapchat users to create with during the festival.
One of them only worked at one specific location, the Verizon Cabana zone, with festivalgoers able to decorate the sky with a range of pre-set phrases and animations, creating with friends and chatting to them through the lens.
Meanwhile, a second ‘Sky Segmentation’ lens was available throughout the festival site. Snapchat users could also point their cameras at promotional crates dotted around the event to unlock more AR experiences.
