SoundCloud has appointed Tracy Chan as its SVP of creator (sic – yes, it’s singular).

Chan was previously head of music at Twitch, and has been a prominent music industry-facing executive in that platform’s push to recruit more artists (and to fend off criticism about licensing and royalties). Before that, he was director of product management at Spotify, after it acquired his startup CrowdAlbum, and before that he was a product manager at YouTube.

So, SoundCloud now has an exec who’s led or been heavily involved with Twitch’s music deals; Spotify for Artists and that streaming service’s analytics tools; and YouTube’s ‘Insight’ analytics. A good fit for SoundCloud’s pivot back towards tools for musicians we’d say.

“No one has built, launched and scaled more value-added products and services for creators than Tracy,” said president Eliah Seton, to whom Chan will report.
