We know about the growing reach of African streaming service Boomplay: it had 69 million monthly active users by April this year. Now there’s another number reflecting that scale.

Ghanaian artist Black Sherif has become the latest musician to join Boomplay’s ‘Golden Club’. That’s an unofficial club of artists who have generated more than 100m streams on Boomplay, which also includes the likes of Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido and Diamond Platnumz.

Black Sherif is the first artist from Ghana to reach this milestone according to news site Music in Africa. Black Sherif is signed to Empire, which has been stepping up its activities in Africa in recent years. His track ‘Kwaku the Traveller’ is responsible for more than 40m of those Boomplay streams, according to the report.
