Like its rivals, Spotify has never really nailed the social aspects of music streaming, despite a few attempts. Now it’s preparing for another one, which TechCrunch reports is called ‘Community’.
It describes the feature as one that “would allow mobile users to see what sort of music their friends are streaming in real time as well as what playlists they’ve recently updated in a dedicated place in the app”. So, partly just a long-overdue mobile counterpart to the ‘Friend Activity’ sidebar in Spotify’s desktop app, but also an expansion with the playlists aspect.
The new feature is reportedly accessible (or was at the time the article was published) by typing spotify:community into iOS’s Safari browser. A limited test, then, but one that perhaps hints at Spotify’s willingness to continue exploring how social features might sit within its service more successfully.
