Audiomack

Two announcements from Universal Music Group to report on today.

First, it has expanded its licensing deal with streaming service Audiomack. The deal will now cover Audiomack in Africa, the UK and Canada, as well as the US (which was covered in the two companies’ previous agreement). There’s an interesting detail for the deal as it relates to Africa. UMG is providing “a curated selection” of music for Audiomack’s free tier in 16 African countries, and “a full catalog offering for its premium subscribers in Africa”. An insight into how this major label at least wants to drive paid subscriptions in the continent.

The second announcement was focused on brands: a new ‘UMusic Media Network’ based around music videos, behind-the-scenes content, artist vlogs and other videos, with the aim of getting advertising across it “across the global ecosystem’s leading social media platforms”. It’s been in beta for a year, but is now launching publicly.
