Everybody, yeah, rock your body, yeah? Even if you’re rocking it at your desk or on the sofa. Because yes, Backstreet’s back… with a livestream on messaging app WeChat.

The Backstreet Boys are preparing for a free performance broadcast within the app, with the bold prediction that it could reach 40 million viewers (which would be 12 million more than WeChat’s previous record music livestream: 28 million fans watching Irish man-band Westlife).

The event is the work of East Goes Global, a company that has worked with a number of artists to boost their profiles in China, Westlife included. The company says that the concert this Friday (24 June) will come as WeChat launches new features “that will encourage viewers to be able to share content across various platforms with ease”.
