Infamous filesharing brand LimeWire revealed plans for a comeback as an NFT marketplace earlier this year. It then raised $10.4m in a token sale, and (the big surprise) signed a licensing deal with Universal Music Group. Yesterday, it took the wrappers off that relaunch, including the first artists who’ll be selling NFTs on the service.
Travis Barker, Brandy, Nicky Jam, Aitch and Dillon Francis are the most famous names on the list. LimeWire said that NFTs will include a mixture of digital assets (from artwork to music) and physical-world rewards (meet’n’greets, backstage passes, an actual drum kit from Barker etc).
The terms: artists will take a 90% share of NFT sales on LimeWire’s primary market, and between 2.5% and 5% of resales on the secondary market. Buyers will be able to use credit cards, meanwhile, rather than being forced to use cryptocurrency.
