When we talk about music venues and clubs, we often think of them as being part of the ‘night-time economy’. However, an initiative launching in the UK is hoping to widen their horizons… to the daytime.

The Independent Venue Community (IVC) is all about programming music-based activities during the day in small venues, with a particular focus on six areas. They are: early years, young people; deaf, disabled and neurodivergent; mental health and wellbeing; LGBTQIA+; and older years.

Founder Sybil Bell said that for venues, the initiative aims to bolster “the role they can play as community spaces, where local people can express themselves, try new things or simply come together in person”.

She’s aiming to build a national network of venues taking part, and has signed up artist duo Nova Twins as its founding ambassadors.
