Audius 1500x500

Streaming service Audius is introducing a feature for fans to send tips to their favourite artists. While for now it uses the web3 DSP’s own $AUDIO token, according to news site CoinDesk there are plans to expand the feature to support ‘fiat’ currency (with credit-card payments) in the coming months.

Fans who tip artists will get recognition on the service: public rankings of the biggest tippers for each artist.

Meanwhile, artists will be able to post emoji reactions to tips to say thank you. “We kind of see it as laying out the breadcrumbs to help our mainstream, Web2 audience start to understand how to tip and how to support their favourite artists and a Web3 ecosystem,” chief product officer Forrest Browning told CoinDesk.

Listeners can also tip curators on Audius using the tokens, which were first announced in October 2020, then rolled out into a rewards program in February this year.
