Snapchat launched its first ever subscription tier in June this year, with the $3.99-a-month Snapchat+. How’s that going?
Pretty well it seems. “It’s been just over six weeks since we launched Snapchat+ and we are thrilled to share there are over 1 million paying subscribers,” announced the company in a blog post yesterday. The new tier is now available in 25 countries.
The news was accompanied by some new features for Snapchat+, including something called ‘Priority Story Replies’ which promises subscribers that “your replies will be more visible to Snap Stars” (i.e. influencers and celebrities using Snapchat). Emoji signoffs for snaps and some exclusive backgrounds for Snapchat’s Bitmoji avatars are other new perks for the subscription tier.
To keep things in perspective, Snapchat ended June with 347 million daily active users, so right now just under 0.3% of its users are paying for the new tier six weeks in to its life. Room to grow, then.
