Spotify launches a new ‘three months free’ Premium promo

Three-month promos to encourage free users to start paying have been a key plank in Spotify’s marketing arsenal for several years now. Its latest campaign got underway yesterday.

People who’ve never subscribed to the service before can get three months of Spotify Premium for free, while people who’ve previously subscribed then cancelled can get three months for the price of one ($9.99).

The campaign is running in 135 countries from 15 August to 11 September. That will be a useful numbers-juicer for Spotify’s Q3 financials, which should be announced some time in late October or early November. The company ended Q2 with 188 million subscribers out of 433 million monthly active users, having added six million net new subscribers that quarter.
