K-Pop artist-tracking app Blip passes 1m Android downloads

Google has hailed the success of a mobile app created to help K-Pop fans follow their favourite artists. Blip is a South Korean startup whose Android app has been downloaded more than 1m times from the Google Play store since its launch.

In a blog post, Google noted that 60% of those downloads were from outside South Korea, with the startup having taken part in the company’s ChangGoo training and mentorship program last year. “K-pop artists bring so much positive influence to fans all over the globe. I built Blip to help fans feel closer to their favorite K-Pop artists, and to let them experience the world of K-pop in a new way,” said founder Kim Hong-ki in an interview for the blog post.

The app describes itself as a “K-Pop schedule notifier” showing what popular artists are up to on any given day, including the likes of Blackpink, Monsta X, Twice, Seventeen, Red Velvet and Super Junior.
