Our recent country profile of Mexico included some stats from Spotify on the growth of regional Mexican music on its service, with streams up 450% over the last five years. Now the streaming service has published some more figures showing how Mexican music generally is reaching a global audience through its service.

“Since 2019, the volume of streams has more than doubled to reach 5.6 billion,” explained the company, noting that collaborations and crossovers are bringing this music to the wider world. “Last year, 66 million listeners on Spotify discovered Mexican music for the first time outside of Mexico.” 21% of ‘export streams’ for Mexican music happen in the US, with Guatemala, Chile and Colombia other key markets internationally.

To capitalise on all this, Spotify is launching a ‘México es imparable. Reprodúcelo’ marketing campaign, including short films focusing on artists Eduin Caz, Julión Álvarez and Yahritza y su Esencia.
