YouTube Premium is the video service’s catch-all subscription tier: it includes YouTube Music Premium, but also features to watch videos offline, and without advertising. Its family plan for up to six accounts used to cost $17.99 in the US, but is now being increased to $22.99.

It’s one of the biggest rises we’ve seen for an entertainment subscription tier, although in some parts of the world the increase is less – for example, in the UK it’s rising from £17.99 to £19.99. For now, the price of an individual YouTube Premium plan (again, including YouTube Music’s paid tier) is remaining at $11.99.

For some music streaming services – Spotify for example – increasing the cost of family plans has presaged later moves to increase individual plans too. We’ll be interested to see whether there’s any movement in the cost of YouTube Music Premium in the coming weeks or months.
