Music artists and ClientEarth call for new Euro climate law

A group of prominent music artists are among the signers of an open letter calling for the European Union to adopt a new law cracking down on deforestation, as part of its efforts to tackle the climate emergency.

Veteran climate campaigners are among the musical signatures, with Coldplay, Brian Eno and Sting alongside the likes of Robyn, Barbra Streisand, Bryan Adams and David Gilmour, as well as actors, directors and activists.

“This game changing law can break the link between food production and deforestation, and trigger a global transition to ways of farming and forestry that don’t harm people and nature,” explained the letter.

It’s referring to a proposed law that has already been backed by the European Parliament, so the next step will be winning the assent of leaders of the European Union’s member countries. It’s been organised by non-profit organisation ClientEarth.
