Ticketmaster to face US Senate hearing by the end of this year

Ticketmaster’s difficult end to 2022 continues, with the company now facing a hearing in the US Senate over its business practices.

Senator Amy Klobuchar, who chairs the Senate’s antitrust committee, said yesterday that the hearing will take place this year. She also stressed that it will not just be about last week’s problems with ticket sales for Taylor Swift’s upcoming tour. “It’s about prices, hidden fees that are way too high. It’s about site disruptions,” said Klobuchar, according to Reuters.

The news comes after Klobuchar wrote to Live Nation boss Michael Rapino last week with five questions about how Ticketmaster operates, with a deadline of 23 November (today!) to respond.

For its part, Live Nation published a statement this weekend setting out its defence against claims of anticompetitive behaviour.
