Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft may hog the headlines when it comes to in-game music performances, but there are opportunities beyond that trio: as PUBG Mobile showed with its Blackpink event this year.

Norwegian artist Aurora is exploring another frontier with her 8 December performance within a game called Sky: Children of the Light. It might not be as well known within the music industry as the titles above, but the game has been downloaded more than 160m times on iOS, Android and Nintendo’s Switch console, with a PlayStation release set for December.

The 45-minute Aurora concert will be accompanied by other interactive activities: branded instruments, a sound bath etc. This is part of a wider partnership that has encompassed a whole in-game season of Aurora content: characters, stories, quests and items based on her music.

It’s more than just a one-off performance to create some headlines, then, it’s a more deeply thought-out campaign.
