SoundCloud doesn’t describe them as listeners, we should note. The company prefers to use the term ‘fans’. Still, there are 130 million of them according to SoundCloud’s just-published financial results for 2021, reported by MBW.
The company also ended 2021 with more than 40 million artists who had music available on its service, and 320m tracks. As for the actual financials, SoundCloud’s annual revenues grew by 19.2% to €230.7m (around $245.6m) although its operating losses also grew from €15.4m in 2020 to €21.2m in 2021.
The revenues included 16.6% growth for SoundCloud’s ‘Fans’ business (ads and subscriptions from its streaming service) and 23.7% growth for its ‘Creators’ business (subscriptions from artists).
The ‘Fans’ side is still bigger, accounting for 62.2% of the company’s overall revenues.
