bing crosby decentraland

If you thought Bing Crosby looked a bit awkward duetting with David Bowie, imagine the scenes if he was having to get to grips with Decentraland.

Crosby’s death in 1977 may have predated modern metaverses by several decades, but in 2022 he’s the focus for the latest music activation in Decentraland: Bing Crosby’s Winter Wonderland. “An amusement park, newly designed mini-games – like a winter crazy golf, a ‘Bing’s Sweater Shop’, and a dozen jolly music experiences, a Bing Museum, and more,” as the blurb puts it.

It’s what he would have wanted…

This is an official thing, part of the wider spread of Christmas activity around Crosby’s catalogue from Primary Wave Music, to celebrate the 45th anniversary of that Bowie collaboration ‘Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy’.

There’s also a SiriusXM partnership with two weekly radio shows; a vinyl re-release and limited merch capsule; and (rivalling Decentraland for the most unexpected Bing Crosby marketing move) some lo-fi hip-hop remixes of his Christmas tracks, in a partnership with UMG.
