Remember when the Brit Awards scrapped separate best male and best female artist categories in favour of a gender-neutral ‘artist of the year’ category? Now wince at the news that all five nominees in that category this year are men. Ouch.
The announcement did also bring some details of the partnerships around the UK awards, which will take place on 11 February.
TikTok is heavily involved again, hosting the public vote aspect of the awards for the second year. This is for the four genre-focused categories: best alternative/rock act, dance act, hip-hop / grime / rap act and pop / R&B act. TikTok will launch its voting hub on 19 January, with people able to cast their votes (up to 10 per category) until 2 February.
As last year, there’ll also be a range of activity and content happening on TikTok, which says videos with the #BRITs hashtag have been viewed more than 445m times since last year’s event.
