Beatport has been one of the more acquisitive music companies in recent years, and yesterday it announced its latest deal.
It has bought a majority stake in the International Music Summit Ibiza (IMS Ibiza). While best known for its popular industry conference (yes, in Ibiza) IMS also publishes a widely-read annual report on the electronic music sector; has held other events around the world; and has moved into education with its IMS College initiative.
Beatport boss Robb McDaniels said the acquisition will make IMS “a major component of our plan to expand the Beatport brand around the world through community, education, and thought leadership initiatives” in the coming months.
IMS’s co-founders will continue to run its flagship conference, which takes place in Ibiza at the end of April.
