In our report yesterday on the emerging competition around conversational AIs and online search, we noted that Microsoft was holding an event to reveal its plans.

This was last night, so we now know that those plans involve giving its Bing search engine and Edge web browser a shot of AI courtesy of the ChatGPT model.

Here are the details from Microsoft, and here’s the preview of the ‘new Bing’ – although to get full access you have to join a waitlist.

Following on from our views yesterday about what conversational AI search means for music, we noted with interest that one of the new Bing’s example searches focused on our sector.

The demo query was ‘I like electronic music and want to go to my first festival this year. Do you have any recommendations or tips for me?’

If you click through to that search, you should see the ChatGPT-powered sidebar in the results recommending Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival, Awakenings Festival and Electric Mountain Festival, along with some bullet-point tips.

Meanwhile, in its test of the system, the Wall Street Journal got it to recap the 2023 Grammys winners and field questions about Beyoncé tickets.
