The UK’s Musicians’ Union is throwing its weight behind the Featured Artists Coalition’s ‘100% Venues’ campaign, which is signing up venues who promise not to take a cut of artists’ merch sales.

The campaign launched in January 2022, after protests about the practice of taking as much as 25% of these sales when artists played certain venues.

The Musicians’ Union has been running its own ‘Fair Play Venue Scheme‘ since 2013, with a directory of venues who it sees as offering fair deals to musicians.

The two campaigns will undoubtedly be stronger together, so the partnership is welcome news for musicians. The idea has been catching on globally too: in November 2022 FAC teamed up with the US-based Union of Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) to run a similar campaign there.
