The licensing models for music in the metaverse – specifically virtual worlds and online games – are famously… nascent. British startup Lickd is one of the companies trying to create the models for these deals.
In July 2022 it announced a two-year partnership with Vegas City, a district within the Decentraland virtual world, to provide playlists and genre-based radio streams as background music.
Now we know more about where that music is coming from, at least on the publishing side. Empire and Kobalt Music Group have licensed their catalogues to Lickd for use in Vegas City via its ‘Chorus‘ player.
here’s another partner involved in all this too: the LaLiga Spanish football league, which will be using the player in its LaLigaLand venue in Vegas City.
LaLigaLand itself is an interesting example of a brand experimenting with Decentraland: the league is selling ‘season passes’ to fans starting at $29.99 for access to its events, NFT collections and other features.
