Streaming radio service Gimme Metal has been catering for collectors for a while now with its vinyl club. Now it’s extending that into the digital world with the launch of its first NFT.
It’s been created for death-metal veterans Deicide, to accompany a new 300-unit physical box-set being sold through Gimme Metal that includes vinyl versions of the band’s nine albums on Roadrunner Records.
Gimme Metal worked with NFTs startup Fanaply on the digital element.
“We’ve always wanted to offer a digital collectible to our community of metal superfans, but were initially skeptical of NFTs as an irresponsible ‘get rich quick’ scheme that was costly to the environment,” said Gimme CEO Tyler Lenane, praising Fanaply for overcoming these concerns.
“It was of vital importance to us that our first digital collectible reward our best customers for being fans–not a ploy to squeeze more dollars from them with a novel trinket.”
