Snap reveals latest Snapchat Sounds stats

Snap launched its ‘Sounds’ feature on Snapchat in August 2020, after striking licensing deals with various labels and publishers.

It was a way for people to add commercial music to their snaps, and by June 2021 (when Snap added a deal with UMG) those sounds had been used in 521m videos. Now we’ve got an update on that stat.

According to Snap, there have now been more than 2.7bn videos created using the Sounds feature, and those videos have been watched more than 183bn times – up from 31bn in June 2021.

By our reckoning, that means over the past 20 months Snapchat Sounds have been averaging 109m video creations and 7.6bn views of those videos a month.

The stats were announced alongside a pair of new tools for the feature. First, ‘Sounds Recommendations for Lenses’ will help people find music tracks to use when creating videos with Snapchat’s AR lenses.

Second, ‘Sounds Sync for Camera Roll’ will help them to create musical montages from photos and videos on their phone. Both features are available in the US and rolling out globally.
