Web3 music service Audius has hired a digital music veteran to be its chief business officer.
Shamal Ranasinghe joins from SiriusXM/Pandora, where he was VP of product management, catalog and creators. Before that he was a co-founder of D2C firm Topspin Media, holding various executive roles at that company.
Ranasinghe knows Audius well already: he has been an advisor to the decentralised streaming service since its early days in 2018. His work at Pandora included overseeing its Artist Marketing Platform (AMP), which is a pointer to what he’ll be bringing to Audius.
“Shamal built some very sophisticated tools at Pandora that enable artists to leverage the platform to build their fan bases in very powerful ways,” said CEO Roneil Rumburg.
“His deep expertise within the music business and his track record of building tools for artists and rights holders will be invaluable to Audius as we look to deepen our relationships with the music industry at large and the artists on our platform.”
Audius currently has nearly 6.4 million monthly unique users according to its public stats.
