elsewhere membership

The greatest nightclubs have always been powerful communities in their own right, and we’d venture that few cities have proved that as often as New York.

Brooklyn venue and nightclub Elsewhere is doing something interesting to extend its community into the online sphere. It has launched a digital membership program with three tiers.

‘Freaks with Benefits’ costs $2 a month and offers perks including skipping the queue, getting special offers, and access to member-exclusive channels on Elsewhere’s Discord server.

‘Sonic Explorer’ costs $6 a month and includes the basic tier’s perks plus half-price tickets, while people paying $30 a month for the ‘Patron Saint’ tier also get free entry to all shows and parties, reserved tickets for sold-out events and free merch.

Elsewhere says that the scheme has been fully worked through with the input of the keenest fans who already frequent its Discord server.

“This membership is really about taking all these rad people we see at our club every week who care about emerging culture as much as we do, and gathering them together in one place to talk and connect,” said founder Jake Rosenthal.

This kind of membership scheme is often pitched as an ideal use case for NFTs. What’s interesting here is that Elsewhere is doing it another way: with Discord, a subscription system and digital membership cards that sit in people’s Apple and Google wallet apps.
