The two most popular YouTube channels by monthly views are music channels – but not from major western artists.

Nursery rhymes channel Cocomelon tops the latest unofficial rankings published by online-video industry site Tubefilter, with 2.67bn views globally in March. Indian film-music giant T-Series is close behind in second place with 2.56bn views that month.

The highest-ranked (and, indeed, the only) individual artist in the top-100 chart is Colombian star Karol G, whose YouTube channel generated 755.4m views in March.

It’s a useful snapshot of what kind of channels are drumming up most views on YouTube beyond music, including geographic trends. While 25 of the top 100 channels are from the US, 20 are from India, 11 from Russia and seven from Vietnam.

The chart is also a marker of how T-Series’ YouTube views have grown: six years ago, in April 2017, we were reporting on how it had just reached the milestone of 1bn monthly views.
