Earlier this year, streaming service Tidal shut down its ‘Direct Artist Payouts’ [DAP] scheme, where a portion of its HiFi subscribers’ monthly subscriptions went to their most-played artists. At the time, the company said it would replace the scheme by focusing instead on its ‘Tidal Rising’ initiative for emerging artists, promising to invest more than “10x what we distributed via DAP”.

Yesterday, Tidal relaunched that initiative, revealing that Alex Vaughn, Baby Storme, Cheekface, Reuben Vincent and Sunny War are among the first artists to benefit.

Tidal also outlined some of those benefits: direct funding; tickets for its first ‘Tidal Artist Summit’ event; workshops; Dolby Atmos training; playlist and covers support; and original video documentaries produced for Tidal.

It’s also inviting emerging artists to apply to the program via its website.
