TikTok’s latest music feature is a new hub within its app focusing on frontline releases. Called #NewMusic, it pulls together new releases from artists on TikTok, and is accessed simply by typing ‘new music’ into the app’s search bar.

This isn’t a new hashtag: artists have been using it for years to tag videos featuring their new tracks, to the tune of more than 19bn views.

But now TikTok is taking an active role in curating new music as it appears on its platform. Jonas Brothers, Miguel and Niall Horan out of One Direction are among the artists enlisted to promote its launch this week.

“TikTok is already a destination for artists who want to preview their newest works, and for music fans looking to discover new music, and this new feature will give artists a new way to connect with our global community,” said TikTok’s global head of music content and partnerships Paul Hourican.
