The not-so-long, public fall of BlackBerry may be reaching an end. The Canadian smartphone firm announced plans yesterday to “explore strategic alternatives to enhance value and increase scale in order to accelerate BlackBerry 10 deployment” – which it suggested could include joint ventures, strategic alliances or a sale of part or all of the company

BlackBerry reports quarterly loss despite 6.8m smartphone shipments
While BlackBerry’s revenues increased from $2.8bn in its fiscal Q1 last year, to $3.1bn this year, the company slid into a loss of $94m in the latter period. And while it sold 6.8m smartphones during the latest quarter, 60% of those were its older handsets rather than the new BlackBerry 10 devices spearheading the company’s comeback.
Omnifone platform has added 1.2m new subscribers in 2013
B2B digital music firm Omnifone is celebrating its 10th anniversary with some new stats, including the claim that its cloud music platform has added 1.2m new subscribers since January this year. Its customers include Sony, BlackBerry, HP, Sirius XM and Omnifone’s own spin-off service Rara. What Omnifone isn’t saying, though, is how many total subscribers those services have: we don’t know how many there were in January or how many there are now, aside from the fact that there are 1.2m more of them.
Windows Phone now bigger than BlackBerry (but still very small)
