YouTube kicks off weekly ‘Released’ music show with Blackpink
YouTube is launching a new weekly music show called ‘Released’ which looks like it could be a powerful showcase for artists.
It’ll air at 11.45pm ET every Thursday, and focus on “music moments from the week”, but also a specific artist that’s about to drop new music.
That’s where the timing is important: the show will lead up to a new YouTube premiere each week of a new music video at 12am ET (i.e. as Thursday turns to Friday).
Blackpink trail new album with Spotify and PubG Mobile
One of the K-Pop groups that have been smashing down global barriers recently is Blackpink, who you can expect to see splashed over many digital platforms in the coming week ahead of their new album’s release on 2 October.
Two examples today: Blackpink have launched an ‘enhanced album’ playlist on Spotify, complete with some videos of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa talking about their musical inspirations.
Obviously most of the album tracks aren’t out yet, so for now it’s mainly a playlist of the band’s picks: The Strokes, Nirvana, Catfish and the Bottlemen (!) included.
Amanotes mobile games get tracks by Blackpink and other K-Pop stars
Vietnamese company Amanotes has launched a series of music-driven mobile games, including Magic Tiles 3, Tiles Hop and Dancing Road.
Now it’s getting sprinkling some K-Pop stardom over 15 of its games, through a deal with Korean label YG Entertainment. Tracks by Blackpink, Big Bang and Ikon are among the additions to the games, for fans to tap along to.
It’s a decent partnership for YG, since Amanotes has a large community of gamers: more than 1bn downloads so far, and a monthly active user base of nearly 100 million people.
