Mash-ups and mixes startup Dubset Media raises $4m
Dubset Media has closed a $4m Series A funding round to continue building its business licensing remixes and mash-ups for distribution on music-streaming services.
Boston-based VC firm Cue Ball Capital led the round, with Redwood Venture Partners, Resolute Venture Partners, Neoteny 3 and MediaNet chipping in.
Note the involvement of the latter: MediaNet was acquired by Canadian collecting society SOCAN in May 2016. Dubset CEO Stephen White’s statement focused on the lead investor though.

Digital entertainment firm MediaNet has launched its MN Open platform in the UK, offering APIs for website owners, app developers and online retailers to deliver digital music and e-books to their customers. On the music side, MediaNet has a catalogue of eight million songs and music videos, and lets customers brand their music store however they like.
MediaNet reports record downloads and streams for December
Music and media delivery firm MediaNet has reported 200 million music downloads and 150 million streams across its network of customer sites – who include iLike, HMV, tesco, MOG and Fox News. According to CEO Alan McGlade, the downloads were up 124% year-on-year.
